This was so interesting. Sinclair was, for me, a highly unlikable character and yet I find him so intriguing. This book got my attention from the beginning. The only issue I had was that I wanted to know more about his family, it was such a little hint but I was so great.I didn’t liked Sinclair, I supposed is not an unusual response to him at this stage of the story. I did find him very mysterious which is something very appealing for me and would keep me interested on the next instalments. I wasn’t too impressed by Stella either, it might have something to do with the fact that the story was told from Sinclair’s point of view, but still, she seemed a little plain. There was some defiance coming from her that was nice and I hope to see in the next books, which I definitely plan on keep reading.
It seemed what it is, only the mysterious beginning of something bigger. I can’t wait to keep reading this series.

A perfect prologue to a great series. Kudos Author Celia Aaron for letting us into the mind of an unforgettable Counselor.
This was a short dark quick read that I liked. Sinclair " Sin" Vinemont, an impeccable parish prosecutor that uses his position to get what he wants. This was a prelude to a new series to me and this book was a good start to what Sin wants and he wants Stella Rousseau. Stella has watched her father being found guilty to running some kind of scheme to get money from the elderly. Sin is harassing her family making their lives hell she knows what he is doing is not right. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
So I didn't read this book before starting the rest of the series. I actually read it after Book 2 (didn't know this book existed). However, now that I've read it, I'm glad I waited until after I got through the 2nd book. This one helps makes things a bit clearer and gives a different perspective on the hero of the series. If you read this first, then you're going to be all kinds of confused and may not even continue reading the series. Even after reading the first book, things are still a bit unclear as to why they do the things they do. As I say with my other reviews though, this is still a DARK book, so keep that in mind. This series will not be for everyone, but if you continue reading, it does get better and you see a different side of Sinclair.
I read the warnings for this book, however, I could not find why the warnings were there in the first place. This book was weird. It hinted at a lot of things, but that was it. I do not know if all the questions I have will be answered in the next book. However, not interested enough to find out. I truly dislike cliff-hangers.
This book is very intriguing for anyone who loves a little mystery, romance and what looks to be a very inviting story line. I don't have a problem with short stories, especially if they're offered free. Sometimes you need to read some of the story to see if it's good enough to hook you to buy an entire series. This book definitely did its job. Even if a reader isn't into dark stories, this one sucks you in. By the time I reached the end, I had to know what will happen next, and that says a lot for this avid reader.
This series is a must-read. One of the best suspense series I've read in years. A very unique, intriguing plot had me buying the whole series. I didn't leave the house for three days. It is dark and violent but Celia Aaron pulls you in with easy, flowing style, intricate plotting and complex, attractive characters. If you love old world legends, mystery and stellar dialog - this is the book and series you must read.
For those of us that loved Celia Aaron's 'Acquisition' series, this was a nice little extra. I didn't really think it added much to the story, but it was still nice. At around 50 pages, it was also an incredibly quick read.
Told from Sinclair's POV, this novella provides some insight into his mindset in the days leading up to the start of the Acquisition trials. Mostly, this short prequel describes how it is that Sinclair came to be chosen for the Acquistion trials and how Stella came to be his selected acquisition. For the most part, this was nothing new or surprising, although I found Sinclair to be colder than I remembered.
This novella also elaborates a bit more on the traumatic events that took place in his childhood, forever changing the man he would become. His mother played a vital role in molding him into the aloof, entitled man of present day. It ends up that the Acquisition trials had impacted his life long before he was chosen to compete.
All in all, this was a nice way to spend a little time. It can easily be read in one setting. Although it provided a few more details and some insight into Sinclair's thought process, it wasn't essential to understand or enjoy the series. If you want to pay the $.99 to savor a little more time with Sinclair, great. If not, it isn't necessary.
