Anyone who enjoys Sherlock Holmes mysteries but isn't hung up on his traditional characteristics will enjoy Stephanie Osborn's take on the character. Holmes and his wife (yep, he gets married), physicist Dr. Skye Chadwick-Holmes, travel to England, and encounter a challenging conundrum. They end up helping Her Majesty's Secret Service by investigating the death of a man who seems to have been scared to death by a UFO. Of course, this proves not to be the case, and the story gets funkier and funkier.
This is the first half of a two-volume novel. The Case of the Cosmological Killer, parts 1 and 2 are thoroughly worth your time and money, but The Rendlesham Incident is just half of a truly worthwhile whole.
Taking Sherlock Holmes from one continuum in the multiverse to another, in which he had been fictional, and from the 19th to the 21st century, Osborn beset him with both personal and professional challenges in the Displaced Detective books that precede this one. Now he's really started to get a grip on the modern world... which would do well not to underestimate either Holmes nor his spouse.

A new twist on UFOs. Another Si-Fi Sherlock novel.
One of the best series that I have read
Like with the Other two books "The Arrival" and "At Speed" in Stephanie Osborne's Displaced Detective series it is a compelling book that I found almost impossible to put down. Its a excellent mix of mystery and science fiction
Another excellent work in the Displaced Detective series. As per the first two books, I was also unable to put this book down, reading it in a very short amount of time. The main portion of this book takes place in England during a very special trip for the two main characters Sherlock Holmes and Skye Chadwick. They become involved in another mystery, of course, and have to use their abilities to get to the bottom of matters. I think the only qualm I had was that I need to wait for the next book for everything to be solved. And you can be assured I will be buying it on the day it's published. Nice job, Ms. Osborn!
This was an entertaining story, to a point, but I suspect if one has not read previous books in this series, there is a lot in this one that does not add up. My impression is of a lot of loose ends and an unsolved murder. Story started out with real momentum in a suggestive UFO-fighter jet encounter, and that went...nowhere. Nowhere. Fell flat with the start of the next chapter. The tie to Rendlesham was weak. Some of the romance scenes seemed too gushy, wordy, and simply silly to be of real interest, and more than a little superficial. Not enough to peak my interest in that part of the story.

Reading this made me think of other authors who write multiple books with the same characters, and who have enough background info in each book that it can stand alone, or it can be read as part of a series. There was not enough info in this book to "anchor" it to anything.

My quandary is, do I want to spend the money to read the other books in an effort to find out if some of the loose ends are tied up...or do I just want to forget the whole thing...? Have not decided, but am leaning toward forgetting it.
I bought this as a gift for my wife, who has been a Holmes fan since she was little. She was absolutely charmed by the story, pronouncing it "the Best" of any Holmes pastiche she'd ever read and saying the author had perfectly captured the style of the characters. Her sole complaint has been that there are not more available. Purists will hate it because they are purists, not because it is unsuccessful at what it promises out to do. A perfect gift for the reasonable Holmes fan in your life.
Sometimes when you search for entertainment, written or other wise, you want to know the protagonist is one of the good guys. Anti-heroes have their place and so do those infallible creatures that live only to save the day. For me Sherlock Holmes has always been one of the true good guys. He has an amazing mind but that doesn't make him more than human, an amazing example of humanity, but still human. He makes choices based on what he thinks is best and the clues provided. He has his personal version of right and wrong. He does his best to adhere to this personal code. When you read a book with Sherlock Holmes you have expectations. Holmes is a hero.
In my opinion the Displace Detective Series is a fine example of Holmes done well.
